Multifaith Anti Poverty Project (MAPP)
New Volunteers needed for Phase 2 of the Multifaith Anti Poverty Project.

Become an anti-poverty champion within your community

2010 was the European Union year for tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion. We launched the MAPP because whilst Black and Minority (BME) communities were most affected by poverty issues but the least likely to be involved in the practical, advocacy and policy making work of the Poverty Alliance and other anti-poverty campaign groups. We aimed to put that right as BME people have a real interest to tackle poverty from our own perspectives. That's why we looked for volunteers to become part of this anti-poverty campaign which began linking African and Arab christian and muslim communities in 2009/10. We held 3 successful anti-poverty workshops on Poverty and Social Exclusion; on Housing; and on Employment and Education attend by over 100 people.

We are now now hoping to extending the MAPP to other Glasgow faith and BME communities through the Central & West Integration Network (CWIN)

We will train a second group of volunteers to help organise an anti-poverty conference and workshops during Spring 2012. This will involve your commitment to visit mosques, churches and other places of worship during important events (such as Islam Awareness week and during Scottish Interfaith week)  to share concepts from our religions that guide us in fighting poverty and social injustice. We hope you will become anti-poverty champions within your communities.

MAPP Phase 1 was managed by Arabic educational charity Dar Al Falaah Community Education Association jointly with the A&CN and two A&CN affliliate Glasgow Jubilee Social Centre and was funded by FISCAF.

Phase 2 will be managed jointly by A&CN and CWIN in Glasgow. MORE
