ABOUT US

The African and Caribbean Network Ltd (A&CN) is a voluntary sector umbrella organisation and coordination body for 40 African and Caribbean community groups representing 10000 people in Glasgow and the surrounding region.

Since our formation in July 2005 we have been working towards the establishment of an African Caribbean Centre for Cultural Heritage, integration and social enterprise.

The A&CN’s unique selling points are:

We build self-organised and empowered capacity within the A&C communities through group training for fundraising, good governance, information sharing and partnership working.

We serve as the social/political interface between our various nationalities with other community, statutory and voluntary sector agencies on issues of discrimination in access to employment, education, health, housing and services - particularly for women and young people.

We are the only African-Caribbean-led agency actively promoting integration through social enterprise as a key poverty reduction strategy as members of the Scottish Social Enterprise Coalition.

We fight racism by promoting African & Caribbean Scottish cultural history, Pan-African unity and as expressed from communities themselves helps build Scottish public awareness of African needs.

We help avoid duplicating services already provided by African member groups – and provide the space and coordination to facilitate member group strategies for funding applications coming from different African communities.
