what we do

The A&CN strives to promote inclusion of African and Caribbean residents as equal and valued members of their communities, alleviate and eradicate discrimination through raising awareness of the issues, facilitating a joint working approach, influencing policy and provision at all levels and empowering African and Caribbean people to contribute to these processes.

We are also working towards building a notional African for Scotland with groups in Fife, Dundee, Central Scotland, Lanark shire, Edinburgh, Scottish borders and Aberdeen. The A&CN will act as the Glasgow hub for information and support on funding, integration and community social enterprise for African & Caribbean communities.

 Through a combination of several approaches and with some key partners, the A&CN is set to achieve for its members and the wider community;

·          Resources and sharing professional skills

·          Maximising integration of Scotland’s African & Caribbean communities.

·          Developing an African & Caribbean Centre for Cultural Heritage & Social Enterprise

·          Building self-organised and empowered Capacity within the A&C communities

·          Serving as social interface between A&C communities & the statutory/voluntary sector

·          Tackling issues of discrimination in employment, education, health, housing & public services particularly for A&C women and young people.

·          Promoting Social Enterprise as a key poverty reduction strategy. Fighting racism through promoting African & Caribbean Scottish cultural heritage

·          Helping build wider Scottish public awareness of African & Caribbean needs
